By means of the precipitation-reaction it has been fully proved that the albumen of the lama and the camel are closely related and that they can be clearly distinguished from the albumen of other animals as e.g. cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat, pig and horse. This evidence is of high scientific interest for it shows the exceptional position held by the two animal species among the ruminants and the cloven-hoofed animals respectively. This reaction is also of great practical value because it allows when controling and testing meat and meat products to state the presence of lama and camel meat and to detect falsifications.
