Langs serologische weg kon worden aangetoond, dat de hier onderzochte stam vanPolyspora lini Laff. een kwalitatief verschil vertoont met twee stammen vanPullularia pullulans (de Bary) Berkh., die onderling identiek zijn. De omvang van het onderzochte materiaal is te gering om algemeen geldende conclusies te kunnen trekken. De mogelijkheid is bijvoorbeeld niet uitgesloten, dat bij onderzoek van een groot aantal isolaties vanPullularia pullulans soortgelijke verschillen als hier beschreven, binnen de groep zelve naar voren komen.

Summary

A culture ofPolyspora lini Laff., which causes browning of flax, was compared serologically with two cultures ofPullularia pullulans (de Bary) Berkh. isolated in Holland from flax and fromForsythia. Although there is a serological relationship between the two fungi, they differ in one factor. This could be demonstrated by the gel diffusion method (Ouchterlony, 1949;van Slogteren, 1955) (fig. 1).
