Summary

Linked records (n=12,478) from hospital records and death certificates show important regional differences in the prevalence of diabetes at death in Swiss hospitals (German-speaking area 15.0%, French-speaking area 10.5%, Italian-speaking area 10.4%, p<0.002). Reasons for these differences are unclear and call for further research.

Zusammenfassung

Eine «gelinkte» Datei (n=12478) von Spitalstatistiken und Sterbekarten zeigt deutliche Unterschiede in der Diabetes-Prävalenz beim Tod zwischen den drei grossen Sprachregionen der Schweiz: Deutschschweiz 15,0% vs. französische Schweiz 10,5% und italienische Schweiz 10,4% (p<0,002). Der Grund dieser Unterschiede ist unklar und verdient weitere Forschung.
