The clinical value of isotope-nephrography in urology

Abstract

Isotope-nephrography has been developed into an essential part of urological diagnosis. It has proved its value in the interpretation of latent congestions due to subvesical secretory disturbances, and especially in the differential diagnosis of urographycally mute kidneys, particularly when both sides are obstructed by stones. The isotopenephrographic examination of inborn secretory disturbances, such as hydronephrosis and hydroureter, permits a more precise indication for surgery and is also of value in the control of the post-operative course. In the diagnosis of nephrogenous high blood pressure, isotope-nephrography plays, in our opinion, an important part, as it is in a position to demonstrate functional differences between the two kidneys with precision. Chronic pyelonephritis yields characteristic isotope-nephrographical representations even where it cannot be determined urographically.
