Summary
The isolated portal vein of the rat shows according to anatomic and physiological experiments a constant mechanical spontaneous activity. The influence of val5-angiotensin II has been investigated. This peptide enhances the active tension at a concentration of 10−9 g/ml. The effect remains unchanged after pretreatment of the rats 48, 24 and 12 hours previously by reserpine (3×1,5 mg/kg) and was not influenced by propranolole, phenoxybenzamine, atropine, but completely abolished by iproveratrile. The influence of various cations and temperature was studied. The results show, that the effect of val5-angiotensin II is not caused by an adrenergic mechanism but by direct action on smooth muscle of the portal vein.
