Über das Vorkommen von beruflichen Manganvergiftungen in der Stahlindustrie

Anläßlich eines Falles von Manganismus bei einem Ferromanganmüller

Zusammenfassung

Die unter dem Bilde des „Manganismus“ verlaufende chronische Manganschädigung des Zentralnervensystems wird weitaus am häufigsten bei der Gewinnung, Sortierung und Transportierung von Manganerzen und bei der Vermahlung und Verarbeitung von rohem Manganerz oder reinem Braunstein erworben.

Aus der metallurgischen Industrie, in der 90–95% der gesamten Manganerzproduktion Verwendung finden, sind seit Wiederentdeckung des Krankheitsbildes (1901) nur 3 Fälle von Manganismus bekannt geworden. Während es sich bei diesen Fällen um Vergiftungen durch manganhaltige Dämpfe handelt, hat der Arbeiter einer Manganstahlfabrik, dessen Krankengeschichte in der vorliegenden Arbeit mitgeteilt wird, den Manganismus durch Staubeinatmung beim Vermahlen und Sieben von metallischem Ferromangan erworben. Ob das Mangan selbst oder aber Oxydationsprodukte des stark pyrophoren Metalls für die Erkrankung verantwortlich zu machen sind, bleibt unentschieden.
