Summary

Considering the results of other authors the oxygen dependence of CO2-uptake was assumed to be an effect of photorespiration. The CO2-uptake of members from 54 families of the spermatophytes and 1 fern was measured in the air and in nitrogen with 1,5% oxygen. CO2-uptake was not or only slightly influenced by oxygen in the members of the following taxa: genusCyperus (Cyperaceae), tribesAndropogonoideae, Panicoideae andEragrostideae (Gramineae), familiesAmaranthaceae andPortulacaceae. In all other investigated forms the CO2-uptake in the air is 20–40% lower than in nitrogen with 1,5% oxygen.
