Summary

With respect to investigations on amino acid metabolism in pea roots, which we had in view, the effects of numerous amino acids on pea roots cultivated invitro were examined. By isomolare concentrations of different amino acids root growth was found to be influenced with different intensity. The degree of growth inhibition caused by different amino acids varies in relation to amino acid concentration in different proportion. By reason of comparison of dry matter production and longitudinal root growth it seems to be probable that there exist amino acids causing growth inhibition connected with strong substance loss, furthermore, such which also inhibit growth and do not markedly promote catabolic processes, and finally such causing again growth inhibition but without any distinct influence on substance production. Between effects of amino acids in vitro on pea roots and tomato roots (Street et al. 1960) a remarkable correspondence has been stated.
