Abstract

One of the methods of protection of the earth bed of a backfill for a pipeline as well as of embankments for the purpose of increasing their resisting capacity under complex engineering-geologic conditions (scouring, heaving, collapsibility, etc.) consists in the use of geotextile synthetic materials. Five new constructional schemes have been developed which possess high resisting (ballasting) capacity. Experimental investigations have been carried out to determine the mechanism of operation of the soil in combination with geotextile layers, using a special laboratory installation.
