Summary
The authors report on the values of urinary 17-ketosteroids and 17-OHCS before, during and after metopyron test, as well as on results of measurements on the sella with 24 patients suffering from thoracic sarcoidosis. In 16 our of 24 the disease was very active. Seven of this group had lower 17-KS values than the normal. The sellae were reduced in size in 12 patients. Pathologic urinary 17-OHCS values were noted in one case. Eight patients had moderately active diseases. Three of them had lower urinary 17-ketosteroid values and 4 smaller sellae than normally. In the group of patients with moderately active disease, pathologic 17-OHCS values were obtained in one case. The authors have concluded that the function of the anterior pituitary may be varying in fresh, untreated, active cases of sarcoidosis and that neither of the three methods of examination seems to have a diagnostic value in this disease.
