Summary
Embryos of the diapausing strain ofLepidosaphes ulmi showed a low ecdysteroid level at the onset of diapause whereas an ecdysteroid peak occurred at the same stage in the non-diapausing strain. This observation, together with the effects of 20-OH-ecdysone on diapausing eggs, strongly suggests that this hormone inhibits diapause in embryos.
