Summary
After having shown that thePrandtl andWeissinger theories for the calculation of the lift distribution of wings of finite span fail to give the spanwise distribution of the center of pressure, a new model replacing the wing, consisting of two bound vortices, is proposed for the calculation of the lift-and moment distribution. The positions of the two bound vortices and of the two lines for satisfying the downwash condition are determined—in a straight-forward manner as an extension of theWeissinger model—so that the first three terms of theFourier development of the chordwise vorticity distribution give exact values of lift and moment at every spanwise station.
