Ureteral reconstruction and its problems

  • K. Uhlir

Ileoplasty has proved superior to all other procedures for ureteral reconstruction by substituting healthy tissue of normal blood and nerve supply for damaged ureteral portions and thus avoiding late complications inherent in other techniques. Occasional complications involved by the method usually give no major cause for concern. Ileoplasty saved the kidney and even the life of the patients. The majority of patients could lead a normal life after operation. Ureteral replacement by an intestinal loop is regarded as a highly significant contribution to urological surgery.
