Abstract

The indications and necessary conditions of TUR of the prostate are dealt with. The surgical technique, the preoperative management and the results of the procedure are discussed on the basis of a surgical material of 1992 patients with prostatic hypertrophy having had TUR throughout. The low death figures and complication rate of TUR even in advanced age which make it warranted even in poorrisk cases, are emphasized. The universal value of the method providing for a wide range of indications is pointed out. TUR is regarded by the authors as equivalent in every respect with, if not superior to, other procedures of surgery of the prostate.
