Renal cortical index and calyx index for assessment of development and regression of stasis in congenital hydronephrosis

There is still no objective method for defining the extent of hydronephrosis, and surgery is decided upon usually on the basis of subjective criteria. In this paper the author intends to introduce objective figures for the evaluation of the extent of hydronephrosis. Simultaneously, an attempt is made to define the approximate limits of reversibility of stasis in hydronephrosis after operation. In order to prove this a Renal Cortical Index and Calyx Index for the estimation of the extent of hydronephrosis are introduced.
