Summary
On the back skin of rats postmortal burn injuries of third degree have been induced (1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 24 hrs following decapitation), involving about 20% of the body surface. The histamine content (free and total) of the burned and intact skin have been determined by spectrofluorometric method. In the postmortal burn injuries of rats the free histamine (15.01 ± 3.67 µg/g) and the total histamine (26.0 ± 3.83 µg/g) compared to the intact scin of the same animal showed a significant rise (P < 0.001) free histamine 3,93 ± 1.65 µg/g; total histamine 8.41 ± 3.37 µg/g. In the postmortal burn injuries 57.2 ± 81.1%, in the intact skin 47.4 ± 9.0% free histamine levels have been demonstrated. As in the vital burn injuries the free histamine attained a 70.9 ± 10.3% level, such or a higher free histamine content undoubtedly proves the vital origin of the burn injury.
