Zusammenfassung

Die für eine Interpretation der Entwicklung der Sterblichkeitsrate der Säuglinge bei der Geburt (spätfetal) und innerhalb der ersten Woche nach der Geburt (früh-neonatal) verwendeten Abgrenzungsmerkmale Abort/Totgeburt/Lebendgeburt werden bezüglich Konsistenz ihrer Definition im zeitlichen und räumlichen Vergleich überprüft.

Einer der in verschiedenen Ländern erwähnten verfälschenden Einflussfaktoren auf die Registriertätigkeit bei Totgeburten — die Religion — wird am Beispiel Schweiz ansatzweise überprüft.

Résumé

Des différences de définitions pourraient expliquer en partie les variations de la mortalité infantile. On a donc étudié les définitions légales concernant l'avortement spontané, la mortinatalité et les naissances vivantes en tenant compte de disparités historiques et internationales.

Un des facteurs souvent mentionné influenÇant l'enregistrement des morts-nés — la religion — semble avoir joué également un rÔle en Suisse et explique certaines différences intercantonales avant les années soixante.

Abstract

One of the reasons for variations in infant mortality could be the differences in registration of vital events. In this paper the legal definitions regarding spontaneous abortion, stillbirth and live birth are studied taking into account international and time related differences.

One of the often cited influencing factors on registration — the religion — has possibly influenced differences between Swiss cantons before the sixties.
