Erwerbstätigkeit während der Schwangerschaft und Geburtsgewicht

Zusammenfassung und Schlussfolgerung

Eine an sich deutliche Beziehung von Erwerbstätigkeit während der Schwangerschaft zu herabgesetztem Geburtsgewicht lässt sich praktisch vollständig durch den unterschiedlichen Anteil von Erstgebärenden und durch den höheren Zigarettenkonsum unter den Erwerbstätigen erklären. Ein ungünstiger Einfluss der Erwerbstätigkeit während der Schwangerschaft an sich liess sich in unserem Kollektiv nicht feststellen.

Le poids moyen du nouveau-né était significativement abaissé (de presque 170 g) parmi les 521 femmes exerçantes une activité professionelle durant la grossesse par rapport à 475 femmes sans activité, residantes dans la même région d'Aarau (Suisse). Cette différence s'est avarée dans l'analyse multifactorielle liée à la proportion élevée des primipares et à la consommation de tabac plus prévalante parmis les femmes employées. Le rôle de l'activité professionelle, en tant qu'elle n'a ainsi pas pu être confirmé.

Summary

The average weight of the newborn was found significantly lower (almost 170 g) among 521 women with gainful employment during pregnancy compared to 475 other singleborn babies of residents of the Aarau region (Switzerland), who did not indicate such an occupation. Multivariate analysis, however, revealed that the observed difference was accounted for by the higher proportion of primiparae and of smokers among the working women, a direct influence of the occupation on birth weight could not be confirmed.
