Zusammenfassung

Unter dem Druck der Kostensteigerung ist der Ruf nach vermehrter, institutionalisierter Forschung über das Gesundheitswesen immer stärker geworden. Im anglosächsischen Sprachraum lässt sich «Forschung über das Gesundheitswesen» (Health Services Research) seit Ende der fünfziger Jahre als eigene Forschungsrichtung erkennen. Die diskutierten Beispiele für Forschungsresultate aus dem Gebiet der Medizintechnologie, der Mechanismen zur Kontrolle der Kosten im Gesundheitswesen sowie von Alternativsystemen und speziellen Problemen wie Aufenthaltslängen von Kranken und Inanspruchnahme von Spitalbetten zeigen, dass bisherige Ansätze zur Forschung über das Gesundheitswesen von einem beinah ausschliesslich deskriptiven Niveau auf ein analytisches und experimentelles gebracht werden müssen, um eigene Lösungsansätze der hängigen Probleme zu entwickeln.

Summary

The call for more research in health care delivery has increased with the rising cost of medical care. Since the end of the fifties, a new research direction is identifying itself primarily in the Anglo-Saxon literature: Health Services Research.

Examples discussed include results of Health Services Research regarding the diffusion of medical technology and the mechanisms to control costs of health services. These and similar results from special studies on average length of stay and utilization of hospital beds show that Health Services Research should develop from primarily descriptive studies into an analytical and experimental discipline in order to provide clues to the pressing problems of the delivery of medical care.

Résumé

La recherche sur les services de santé s'est développée surtout sous la pression des coûts dans le domaine de la santé. C'est surtout dans la littérature anglo-saxonne qu'on peut déceler depuis une vingtaine d'années cette nouvelle discipline de recherche.

La discussion d'exemples de cette recherche concernant la diffusion de technologie médicale et les mécanismes de contrôle des coûts montrent que la recherche sur les services de santé devrait se transformer d'une discipline descriptive en un moyen de recherche d'orientation analytique et même expérimentale.
