Summary
An unusual ascus ofN. crassa containing four bisexual and four akaryotic spores was discovered. The bisexual heterokaryons were analyzed. The data suggest that these spores were produced by and association of nuclei after the second division, followed by a third conjugate division. The function of the third division is discussed.
