Mechanism of alkylation in the dehydrocyclization of hexane on metals

Abstract

The formation of toluene on nickel was investigated by a tracer technique. It was established that the hydrogenolysis of benzene is faster than its formation and this yields monocarbon fragments which are available for alkylation. On platinum toluene is not formed owing to the lack of benzene decomposition.
