Interactions of methane with tungsten at atmospheric pressure

Methane decomposition on tungsten wires is studied at atmospheric pressure and temperatures between 1700 and 2000 K. Reaction probabilities on the carbonized surface are measured along with diffusion coefficients of carbon into bulk tungsten. Agreement with other authors' data indicate that the reaction probability remains constant for changes over 6 orders of magnitude in the methane pressure.
