Abstract
The transmission of optical multimode carriers via clad glass fibres has many advantages, but in general introduces severe signal distortion because of mode delay differences. We describe a simple semiconductor receiver capable of equalizing these delay differences at the fibre end. A tenfold increase in bandwidth (data rate) should be possible by this means if mode coupling in the fibre is not excessive.
