EDITOR'S note. — this is the first of a series ofCritical Reviews, contributed by outstanding representatives of mycological research forMycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata at the request of the Editor. TheseReviews will cover practically every country on the globe where serious mycological research is going on. In this way we hope to present the results of mycological research in concentrated form, with global aims, including countries which are lesser known in the international community of mycologists, but made, nonetheless, substantial contributions to our knowledge. TheseReviews should show the present state of mycological research in a given geographical area, its future trend and should be the source of mutual incentive for even higher goals to be achieved.
