IV. Use of thymol as an acaricidal agent against infestation of fungus cultures and mycotheca with acari (mites)

Summary

Pollak's suggestion to use thymol as an acaricidal agent for killing and prevention was re-examined. The efficiency of this inexpensive and toxicologically harmless agent could be wholly confirmed.

The experiments carried out and the method of application of this acaricidal agent are described.

Thymol kills the mites by progressive paralysis of the nerve centers and the eggs by transforming their normal contents into a grossly granular mass.

Résumé

La suggestion dePollak d'utiliser le thymol comme l'agent acaricidal pour exterminer et pour prévenir une infestation acarienne a été réexaminée. L'efficacité de cet agent de bon marché et d'une innocuité toxicologique pouvait être confirmée.

Les experiments faits et la méthode d'application de l'agent acaricidal sont décrits.

Le thymol tue les acariens par la paralyse progressive des centres nerveux et leur oeufs en transformant leur contenu normal homogène en une forme grossièrement granulaire.

Zusammenfassung

Pollak's Vorschlag, um Thymol als ein milbentötendes und vorbeugendes Mittel zu benutzen, wurde einer Nachuntersuchung unterzogen. Die Wirksamkeit dieses billigen und toxikologisch harmlosen Mittels konnte vollauf bestätigt werden.

Die durchgeführten Versuche und die Anwendungsweise des milbentötenden Mittels wurden beschrieben.

Thymol tötet die Milben durch fortschreitende Paralyse der Nervenzentren und die Eier durch eine Umwandlung ihres homogenen Inhaltes in eine grobkörnige Masse.
