1.

Summary
The influence of dessicated thyroid administered orally to the rat upon its blood-serum cholesterol was found to be dependent on the initial value of this parameter. The greater the positive or negative difference of this initial value from a basic level estimated to be about 45 mg-%, the greater was its increment or drop following administration of dessicated thyroid; the changes in serum being parallel to those in the liver. In the hypothyroid rat a slight increment of both these values was recorded.
Free fatty acids are diminished in the serum of the rat with hypothyreoidism; in hyperthyroid animals there is no change. In heart muscle of hyperthyroid animals FFA were increased; in the liver normal values were found.
The concentration of phospholipids was found to be increased in most thyroid-administered animals. Hypothyroid rats revealed normal values.
The administration of dessicated thyroid results mostly in a drop of triglyceride concentration. In the liver of the rat with hypothyreodism triglycerides wen increased.
The weight of thyroid gland in the group of rats with cholesterolbutter diet was increased.
