Summary
-
1.
The excretion of iodine-containing urographic and angiographic contrast media was investigated in 5 patients with acute renal failure and 7 patients with chronic renal failure undergoing peritoneal dialysis.
-
2.
An increased total serum iodine was found in acute renal failure on starting peritoneal dialysis after retrograde filling of the urinary tract with iodine-containing contrast medium (3 patients) and following infusion pyelography (2 patients). There was a marked decrease in total serum iodine at the end of dialysis. The iodine-containing contrast medium was eliminated by dialysate and urine.
-
3.
In 7 patients with chronic renal failure undergoing intermittent peritoneal dialysis diatrizoate (73 mg of iodine) was injected intravenously 15 to 30 h before starting peritoneal dialysis. In 5 patients the investigation was repeated during the next dialysis. The elevated total serum iodine fell significantly in all 12 dialyses from 297±95 to 62±26 μg/100 ml in the first and from 385±56 to 94±36 μg per 100 ml in the second investigation. In the first and second investigation 60.9±22.7% and 58.2±22.9% respectively of the amount given were recovered in the dialysate and 11.5±10% and 13.7±10.8% respectively in the urine.
Zusammenfassung

1.
