Summary
The reactivity of blood glucose and of the concentration of free fatty acids (FFA) was examined in chickens after injections of beef insulin and chicken insulin. Chicken insulin decreased blood glucose concentration and FFA-concentration more than beef insulin. The naturally occuring glucagon in the insulin preparations does not affect the insulin activity. A twofold stimulation was maximally observed in testing chicken fat pads in the production of14CO2and in the incorporation of14C into the lipids from 1-(14C)-glucose. Chicken insulin displayed in the chicken fat pad test a higher activity as beef insulin; the difference was statistically not significant.
