Abstract

Re-examination of xenon isotope data for lunar fines, breccia and rocks reveals that in situ decay product of the spontaneous fission of244Pu is widely distributed in the lunar samples and some of the lunar samples contain in excess of 1000·10−12 ccSTP136fXe/g of244Pu fission xenon. The244Pu ages calculated from the ratios of136fXe to238U in these samples vary from 3965 to 4909 million years.
