Summary
Following the oral intake of 50 gm fructose, sorbitol or xylitol, an increase in the Concentration of serum uric acid from 0.5 to 2.5 mg% was observed. Xylitol proved to be the most effective substance. Sorbitol had the least effect. Galactose and glucose had no effect even in considerably higher dosage (up to 200 gm by mouth). Saccharose, however, in very high dosage (200 gm by mouth) resulted in an increase in the concentration of serum uric acid.
The increase in serum uric after fructose, sorbitol and xylitol was due to uric acid synthesis as the uric acid loss during the experiments was increased. A small measurable increase in blood lactate concentration was found only after the ingestion of fructose.
Die Untersuchungen wurden mit Unterstützung der Jacques Pfrimmer-Gedächtnisstiftung durchgeführt.
