Summary
Economic and humanitarian reasons force us to focus screening examination on populations which present the target condition with a certain frequency. To determine such populations, demographic data, medical questionnaires or results of simpler screening examinations can be used. Such a stepwise procedure can increase the efficiency of screening examinations. A consequent application is, however, impaired by the attitude of the public and the complexity of multiphasic screening.
