Conclusion
Many insecticides could be used with good success against scale insects. The selection depends largely on the species of the scale insect and the stage of development is of great importance. A 4% oil winter spray applied as late as possible is a good control againstChionaspis salicis L. If a properly timed spray programme (mineral oil + DNOC; lime sulfur) is followed in Holland there is no reason to be afraid of a seriousAspidiotus perniciosus attack on fruit trees.
