Abstract

Nosema ptyctimae n.sp. a new Microsporidia in Rhysotritia ardua C. L. Koch (Fam. Phtiracaridae, Ptyctima, Acarina)

A first description of Microsporidia parasitizing in a moss mite (Oribitei) is given. Only the last stages of aNosema species were found inRhysotritia ardua which is living in forest soils. The length of the spores was 4.4–4.8. and the width 1.6–1.8 μm. However also some macropores and egg-shaped or rounded spores of different size were observed. Up to 26 % of the adults were parasitized. The infection was visible as a sharp milky spot beyond the chitin shell of the host. In all cases the fat body and nephrocytes were infested.
