Thermal diffusivity and heat conductivity are important properties for description of the heat transport in solids.

Results of measurements of iron in a temperature range of room temperature up to 1000‡C are presented. Particular interest is dedicated to the solid phase changes (magnetic transition at the Curie temperature, α-γ transition of the crystallographic structrure). The curve of thermal diffusivity shows characteristic changes at these temperatures. These effects may be used forinsitu temperature calibration of the apparatus.

Furthermore, results for different hard metal samples are discussed according to the influence of composition and grain size of the hard material phase. Results are given for thermal diffusivity, heat conductivity, specific heat capacity and density in the temperature range from room temperature up to 1000‡C.
