Abstract

Cultures and animal models have been developed to provide reproducible and uniform systems for evaluation of compounds for effects onPneumocystis carinii. The culture model allows rapid low-cost screening of drugs for activity against trophozoite forms. The animal models allow testing of efficacy for prophylaxis and therapy ofPneumocystis carinii pneumonia.
