Summary
Photolabile azido fatty acids supported the growth of fatty acid auxotrophs, thecel mutant ofNeurospora crassa and the KD115 mutant ofSaccharomyces cerevisiae. These fatty acids were incorporated into the membrane lipids of thecel and KD115 mutants, but were not used by the wild type strain.
