Summary
In 1966J. E. C. Flux found in New Zealand 4 hares, two adult males and two adult females, with a white band on the right wrist.
Brown hares were introduced into New Zealand from Britain and Australia. Because the character and the cause of the white wrist band was unknown,Flux was interested in the occurrence in other populations.
In 1968 we found an adult female hare with a white wrist band, also on the right foreleg. The hare was shot on 23. 8. 1968 near Anderen in the Netherlands. The band formed a closed circle.
There was no evidence of damage to the bone and histological examination of sections showed no evidence of trauma, of inflammation or a scar.
