Summary

The premeiotic DNA synthesis of the female Japanese quail embryo begins after 9 days incubation. The germ cells in premeiotic S phase present a particular structure different from the structure found in germ cells during premitotic S phase. They are the precursors of the meiocytes in leptotene stage.
