È stato osservato che basse concentrazioni di Ca2+ possono esercitare un ruolo importante sull'ossidazione dei substrati NAD-dipendenti in mitocondri di fegato di ratto in rapporto allo stato energetico di questi, mentre non mostrano alcun effetto su mitocondri di tumore nelle stesse condizioni sperimentali.
