Pénétration intracérébrale de l'harmaline

Summary

Intracerebral diffusion of a reversible monoamine oxidase inhibitor, harmaline, has been studied in the rat by fluorescence microscopy after i.p. and intraventricular injections. In both cases, any specific uptake of harmaline into the neurons cannot be specified. Nevertheless, in the second case harmaline never seems to reach structures distant by more than 650 μm from the ventricular ependyma. Moreover, some observations tend to support the hypothesis that there is a diffusion of the drug from infundibulum to the subarachnoid space.
