La somministrazione di estratti acquosi di timo provoca nei ratti vecchi (26 mesi) una diminuzione della concentrazione delle proteine e del colesterolo del siero, e un aumento della concentrazione ematica del-l'ATP. L'estratto provoca inoltre nel fegato un aumento del DNA estraibile allo stato polimerizzato, e una diminuzione dell'incorporatzione di uridina H3 nel DNA.
