Operational behaviour of a complex system

Summary

In this paper, dependability of a complex system having two types of components has been studied when the system is required to wait for the repair facilities. The system under consideration has been assumed to work either with normal efficiency or with reduced efficiency otherwise it is said to be in the inoperable state. Two separate probabilities of the system that it failed completely while it was working with normal efficiency or with reduced efficiency have been calculated. In the later case, the system has to undergo the failure of two components one belonging to each class. TheLaplace-transforms of the various time dependent probabilities of the system have been obtained. For a particular case, the inverse transformation has also been done. In the end, behaviour under steady state has been examined.

Zusammenfassung

In dieser Arbeit wird die Zuverlässigkeit eines komplexen Systems mit zwei verschiedenartigen Komponenten untersucht. Die Anlage arbeitet entweder normal, oder sie kann — während auf Ersatzteile gewartet wird — mit verminderter Leistungsfähigkeit weiterarbeiten bzw. ganz ausfallen. Es werden die Wahrscheinlichkeiten dafür berechnet, daß das System ausfällt während es gerade normal bzw. reduziert arbeitete. Im zweiten Fall muß jeweils eine Komponente jeder Klasse versagen. Für die verschiedenen zeitabhängigen Wahrscheinlichkeiten des Systems werden dieLaplace-Transformationen — und in einem Spezialfall auch ihre Inversen — berechnet. Schließlich wird noch das stationäre Verhalten untersucht.
