Summary
Shooting and nature preserve are in the Sowjet Union subject to a joined general administration in spite of the far reaching independence of the different republics.
Those possessing a shooting licence are generally permitted to shoot everywhere, with the exception of nature and game preserves, and the leaschold shooting districts of shooting organizations. Special regulations are in vigour concerning fur-bearing animals, which are a state monopoly.
The regulations for preservation which are very strict in part, secure the stock of shootable animals. Thus elks, saiga antilopes, sables, and beavers have increased. Sea otters and Siberian tigers are strictly protected. Remarkable is the raising of Dybowski deer and reindeer in large preserves.
