Abstract
The hexachloroiridates(IV) of potassium, ammonium, rubidium and cesium are isomorphous and crystallise in the face-centered cubic system. The thermal decomposition of these complexes under inert atmosphere proceeds in two steps above 500°, resulting in metallic iridium and the corresponding chloride which is partly volatilised. The infrared absorption stretching frequency (v 3) of the Ir-Cl bond is 323–308 cm−1.
