Abstract
Many products like wool, fur and bird feathers are attacked by the common cloth mothTineola bisselliella (Hum.). The pest damages various materials and causes thereby high economic losses in warehouses, museums and also still in households. Until present, the effective control requires high amounts of chemicals. Especially in museums, high amounts are used despite possible health risk.
The development of the alternative pest treatment with carbon dioxide or nitrogen is meanwhile very successful in stored product pest control. The present study transfers this method to textile pest control. Because of the higher susceptibility of moth species without pronounced diapause, the lethal exposure period will presumably be shorter than for many other insect species. Of special importance for exhibits in museums and other valuable objects is the fumigation with pure nitrogen as very recommendable method for disinfestation without the risks of damaging the objects.
