Nach 10 sec dauernder Aufnahme von32PO4″' durch Maiswurzeln ist ATP eine der am stärksten markierten Verbindungen. Die Radioaktivitäten der an Aktivkohle adsorbierbaren Substanzen zeigen folgendes Verhältnis: ATP/UTP+Diphosphate/UDPG/UMP=44/19/25/3.

Der ATP-Umsatz (ATP-turnover) ist in KCl akkumulierenden Wurzeln höher als in nicht akkumulierenden. Der Spiegel des ATP, der Diphosphate, der UDPG und der Hexosephosphate wird durch Akkumulation nicht verändert. Wir fanden 0,05 μMol. ATP/g FG und 0,12 μMol UDPG/g FG.

Arsenat unterhält die Atmung der Maiswurzeln, hemmt jedoch mit steigender Konzentration die oxydative Phosphorylierung und als Folge davon die Akkumulation von Phosphat und Sulfat in zunehmendem Maße.

Es wird daraus der Schluß gezogen, daß die zur Akkumulation nötige Energie aus der Quelle der “energiereichen Phosphate”, letztlich wohl aus dem ATP-Depot, der Zelle bezogen wird. Unbekannt ist, ob bei den durch ATP unterhaltenen Transportprozessen Redoxvorgänge eventuell eine zusätzliche Rolle spielen.
