En el conejo no anestesiado, el acido 5-hidroxiindoleacético y el 5-hidroxitriptofol modifican los potenciales ópticos evocados de manera similar que la serotonina. Los derivados deaminados de la serotonina probablemente modulan las sinápsis serotonérgicas.
