Summary
Tritiated α-(dimethylbenzimidazolyl)-Co-5′ deoxyadenosyl-cobamide, as obtained in the propanediol dehydrase reaction from (RS)-1-3H-propane-1, 2-diol, is shown to transfer substantial amounts of radioactivity to the substrate when used as a catalyst for the reversible enzymatic conversion of methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA. Thus, both reactions involve an intermolecular transfer of hydrogen which is mediated by the same site of the coenzyme.
