Conclusions
The necessary and sufficient basis for assigning a precision class or grade to dynamometers consists of their total error in measuring force under normalized operating conditions.
Standard specifications and other normalizing documents, with a few exceptions, normalize precision classes and grades on the basis of a single particular error of instruments, without taking into consideration the remaining errors. In this connection the total error of normalized instruments can differ considerably from the error corresponding to the classes and grades assigned to them.
The existing practice for normalizing the precision of dynamometers and force transducers should be revised.
