Summary
The total nutrient absorption of a greenhouse cucumber plant, var. Burpee hybrid, has been determined and is equivalent to 408 kg of nitrogen, 92 kg of phosphorus, 550 kg of potassium, 237 kg of calcium and 57 kg of magnesium per hectare. These figures will form the basis for the estimation of a practical fertilizer schedule. Comparison of this crop with the greenhouse tomato shows that the cucumber is a more succulent plant and a more efficient producer of fruit. The anatomical distribution of nutrients throughout the various tissues is demonstrated and may be used as a guide in setting standards for diagnostic tissue tests.
